The Hudson's Bay Company's Columbia Department, run from Fort Vancouver (1825) with posts such as Fort Nisqually near present-day Tacoma, dominated the region. Britain had used the Gregorian calendar since 1752. Joint occupation ended with the Oregon Treaty of 1846, which set the border at the 49th parallel.",
